Many plants still move materials by paper and phone: an operator sees a bin running low, calls the warehouse, someone searches, a forklift moves. What an MES-connected e-Kanban does
The app syncs material levels for each buffer location from the manufacturing execution system (for example Siemens Opcenter), creates a Kanban card automatically when a material drops below threshold, notifies the material manager, and gives the warehouse a drag-and-drop board to fulfil requests. Managers can still raise a card manually when more is needed temporarily. No MES replaced, no WMS replaced, just connected where it hurts.
Numbers from a published case
An automotive parts supplier that deployed e-Kanban reported a process cut from 7 steps to 5, a 22.7% reduction in shop-floor storage area freed for equipment, an average 65-minute lead-time reduction per material request, 120,000 USD less inventory cost, and break-even within 18 months.
